Rev. Marvin Black

Rev. Marvin Black, age 85, of Black Springs, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. He was born on July 19, 1931 at Black Springs, the son of James Bolty Black and Ada Lee Spradling Black. On August 20, 1949, he was married to Delois Brewer Black who preceded him in death on October 28, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his son, Floyd "Butch" Black; his grandson, Darren Fryar; his parents; three brothers, Melvin Black, Truman Black and Thurman Black; and three sisters, Nona Lee Love, Margie Black and Anna Marie Black. A retired logger and Baptist minister, Bro. Marvin surrendered to the ministry in November of 1964. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Deborah Black; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and James Gaston and Marilyn and Steve Warren; and two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. "Cub" and Diann Black and Joey and Lynette Black, all of Black Springs; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marlin Black and Leon Black, both of Black Springs and Austin Black of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sister, Lois Ann Burnett of Amity; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2016, in the Murphy Baptist Church with Bro. Doug Wills and Bro. Billy Bartlett officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Murphy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Russell Fryar, Jim Gaston, Christopher Warren, Brian Bailey, Randy Black, Paul Black, Shane Black, Molly Black, Reannon Black and Lance York.
