Retha Fern Adams

Retha Fern Adams, age 87, of Kirby, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 20, 2025.

She was born on May 11, 1937 in Kirby. Fern was the daughter of John T. and Lon E. Sparks Anderson. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Obed Anderson, Martha Nell Walker, Bernice Baxter, Robbie Jean Stewart, Bobby Anderson, and Faye Anderson.

On July 12, 1963, she married Jimmy Adams and together they have said that October 1973 and July 1976 were the best days of their lives when they gained their two children, Vanessa and Richard. December 1950 they broke the ice in the river and she was baptized and has been a lifetime member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she served many roles and was a member of the Bethlehem Ladies Auxiliary. She worked eleven years at the Glove Factory and for sixty-one years her and Jimmy owned the Kirby Skating Rink. She had many interests and talents including her roles in the Pike County Heritage club, upholstery, and painting. Fern and Jimmy would find services in the community such as cleaning cemeteries and she was on the board of the Kirby Cemetery. Fern will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jimmy Adams of Kirby; her daughter and son, Vanessa Gail and Richard Adams; her brother, Jimmy Anderson; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

The family wanted to thank Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab for their wonderful care.

Pallbearers will be Luke Howell, Adam Reid, Derek Lynch, Lynn Tolleson, Mike Funderburk, and Greg Smith.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Herring officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to services on Wednesday, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Interment will be held at Kirby Cemetery.
