Rena Harkey

Rena L. Harkey, 83 of Sherwood passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010, at home surrounded by family. She was born on December 10, 1926 to Charles E. and Mary D. Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, D.L. Harkey, brother Charles E. Mitchell, and sister Evoline Riffle.

Anyone who knew Rena knew of her love for children. She had a children's daycare center in her home for 32 years and was lovingly referred to by the children as "Honey". Rena always believed children were a gift. She was a member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church. She enjoyed friends and games at the Sherwood Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed playing cards and table games at home with family and friends and shopping. Rena and D.L. enjoyed numerous bus trips and cruises before D.L.'s passing in 2007. She and Cindy continued to make annual trips to Branson.

Survivors include: daughter, Cindy Grisham of Little Rock, brother-in-law James Larry Harkey (Bettie), sisters-in-law, Annabelle Barnard, and Emma Jean Gwin (Bill) all of Jacksonville, AR, brother-in-law Henry Harkey (JoAnn) of Cabot and sister-in-law Corene Mitchell of Sherwood; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Special thanks to caregivers Jackie Clark and Vickie May.

Rena's favorite color is "red", so please feel free to wear red to her service.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M, Tuesday at Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church with Reverend Beverly Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
