Reginald Duane Hamman

REGINALD DUANE HAMMAN (1945-2023) Reginald “Reg” Hamman of North Little Rock, Arkansas went home to the Lord on Thursday March 2nd, 2023 after an extended, heroic battle with the West Nile Virus. Born in Vancouver, Washington December 23, 1945 to Joe and Hilda (Cherry) Hamman, Reg and his older sister Darnetha moved south with their parents and settled in Bethany, Oklahoma. Reg attended Putnam City Elementary alongside a young lady named Glenda Fay McDowell. The two would eventually graduate from Putnam City High School together with many dear friends in 1964. During senior year of high school Reg and Glenda attended a performance of My Fair Lady together and decided to fall in love and hold hands forever. Glenda went on to college at Oklahoma Baptist University and Reg at Bethany Nazarene College where he was a photographer for the newspaper and yearbook. The two were married on August 17th, 1968 at Putnam City Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The couple then moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where Reg was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. Reg spent three years, nine months, eight days and twelve hours with the United States Air Force and worked as a Specialized Cartographer. (Yes. He was a spy.)

After the Air Force Reg went back to the farm. He then went on to study Broadcasting and Business Management at The University of Oklahoma where he worked in University Radio and even called live, play-by-play commentary for the “Game of the Century” – Oklahoma vs. Nebraska in 1971. He graduated in 1972, cementing a lifetime love for the Oklahoma Sooners. Reg was blessed with a very creative spirit and boundless energy. These gifts served him well in his career in Advertising and Media Sales along with On-Air opportunities as a local weatherman at KSWO TV. Son Kevin was born in 1971 in Norman, Oklahoma. The family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma and son Kyle was born in 1974. In 1978, the opportunity came to work as a Sales Rep. for KTHV TV – Channel 11 in Arkansas and the family settled in North Little Rock.

Reg was a devout Believer and Faithful Servant of Christ Jesus and spent many decades as a Deacon, Lay Leader and Teacher at Park Hill Baptist Church. He also worked for several ministries including Dad the Family Shepherd, Billy Graham Films,  Christian Business Men’s Committee and ran his own video production company, Promise Productions, throughout his career. He was a member of the board of Sports Crusaders alongside good friend Bobby Shows and served on the board of Family Council. Reg Hamman was appointed to the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Committee for a number of years. Reg would often hold up John 3:16 signs at football games, on street corners and brought the message of Christ’s Love and Salvation to friends and strangers alike. In later years, he supported meaningful ministries like Love Packages- collecting Sunday School materials from all over the state and then driving them up by the truckload to Butler, Illinois. Over many years he helped send thousands of pounds of Christian teaching materials all over the world. Reg also had his own personal Card Ministry - sending hundreds of cards to widows and widowers each year on birthdays, holidays and in times of bereavement.

Reg was truly a one-of-a-kind, loving, generous man with his time, talents and energy. He will forever be remembered as a treasured friend, neighbor and helping hand in time of need. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Rev. Raymond McDowell of Mustang, Oklahoma and Donald Kimberling of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Glenda Hamman of North Little Rock, Arkansas whom he loved more today than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow. Other survivors include sons Kevin (Kelly) Hamman of Little Rock, Arkansas and Kyle (Shannon) Hamman of Chicago, Illinois and sister Darnetha (Don) Cobb of Montrose, Colorado. Reg and Glenda adored the majestic beauty of the Colorado Rockies during their many visits throughout the years. Reg both cherished and thrived in his role as grandfather – ‘PopR’ alongside his ‘GG’– to Elijah and Phineas Hamman of Chicago, Illinois and Quentin and Piper Hamman of Little Rock, Arkansas. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and he and Glenda served as foster parents to several infants over the years.

Services will be held at Park Hill Baptist Church – 201 E. ‘C’ Avenue, North Little Rock Arkansas. Visitation will be Monday March, 6th, 2023 from 5-7pm and a Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday March, 7th 2023 at 2pm. The family asks that you take time this week to help your neighbor. This is the legacy of our Precious PopR who served the Lord so faithfully as the earthly helping hands of God the Father. God is SO GOOD – No Matter What. The family is very grateful for the tremendous care we received from St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, AeroCare Ambulance Transport and the many physicians, nurses, technicians and therapists at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sherwood Rehab Center and Baptist Health Springhill in North Little Rock. BOOMER SOONER.
