Rebecca Lee Cantrell

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rebecca “Becky” Cantrell at the age of 80 on April 14, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born on June 4, 1944, Becky was a devoted nurse who spent her career caring for others. She was the founder and director of the first in-state enterostomal therapy program at St. Vincent Infirmary. In addition, she worked as a nursing supervisor and later in home health care. She spent over 30 years at St. Vincent Infirmary, Baptist Medical Center and CareNetwork. Her compassion was boundless, and it was in the very course of her calling that she met her second husband, James (Jim) Cantrell, while taking care of him as his nurse. Their love story, rooted in care and dedication, blossomed into a deep, lasting partnership.

Becky was the proud mother of two daughters, Michelle Dorsey (Mark) and Rachelle Chism (Cary), and a devoted grandmother to Hannah, Ethan and McKenna. She was known as “Queen Mother” to her family, and to her grandchildren as "B.B.", offering unwavering support, wisdom, and love to her children and grandchildren.

A lover of life, Becky enjoyed the simple pleasures of each day. Whether it was going to lunch with her close friends, indulging in her favorite pastime at the casino, or sharing laughter with family, she embraced every moment with zest and enthusiasm. Her extra special moments were holiday baking with her daughters and grandchildren, and she was one to never pass up a good glass of red wine or a beach trip.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Goodwin, her father, Sheard Goodwin Sr., husband, Jim Cantrell, brother, Sheard Goodwin, Jr. , sister, MaryJane Bates, and baby brother, Robert Goodwin. She is survived by her daughters and their families, her brother, Dean Goodwin (Jamie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends

Becky will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her independence , and her deep love for her family. She lived life to the fullest and will be missed dearly by all who had the honor of knowing her and loving her.
