R.C. Potter, 83, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, died Thursday, December 4, 2014. He was born March 18, 1931, in Brasfield, Arkansas to Charlie and Mary Elizabeth Manning Potter. He lived most of his life in North Little Rock. He was a member of Park Hill Christian Church. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1949 and served in the United States Air Force from January 4, 1951, to December 15, 1954, during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.
R.C. began work with Weaver and Hiegel Architects in February 1957 and retired from Cromwell Architects/Engineers in May 1994. He was an architect, Arkansas registration number 999, and enjoyed greatly the practice of architecture and the challenges of the profession. He was a past member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB); a charter member of the Arkansas Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, Inc. (CSI); a charter member of the North Little Rock Public Building Authority; Adviser for the NCARB Architect Intern Development Program for many years; and worked on a wide range of architectural projects, including commercial, medical, educational, financial, industrial, office, religious, military, and public housing facilities.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Gayle Phillis Potter; daughter, Jane Potter Whitsett and husband Jack; sons Robert Potter and David Potter and wife Kathy, all of North Little Rock; stepson Christopher Teal and wife Brook of Nogales, Mexico; four grandchildren Graham Potter Whitsett, Laura E. Potter, Dylan A. Whitsett, Drew A. Potter and step grandson Avery L. Teal; great-granddaughter Lilly A. Potter; and sister Lois Potter Smith. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jerrye Swartz Potter; parents Charlie and Mary Potter; sisters Thelma Potter Rhodes, Rachel Potter Rhodes, Cora Potter Sumners, Barbara Potter Kuykendall, and brother Lem C. Potter.
