Ray Stafford Hughes, Sr. age 85 died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the St. Joseph Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs, AR.
He was born September 27, 1924 in Manchester Community, the son of the late Alvah and Lida Beaty Hughes.
He was retired from the Arkadelphia Public School System and a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sara Green Hughes, one son, Raymond Hughes, one brother, A. R. Hughes and two sisters, Esther Mae Hughes and Lavern Pennington.

He is survived by one son, Ray "Tinker" Hughes, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Manchester, Arkansas; four daughters, Sandra Hooks and her husband, Robin of Camden, Arkansas; Barbara Slaten and her husband, Chris of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Becky Snell and her husband, Philip of Southlake, Texas; Deanna Morrison and her husband, Clifford of Friendship, Arkansas; one brother, Glenn Hughes of Manchester and one sister, Frances Byers of Popular Bluff, Missouri; seven grandchildren, John Wayne Hughes and his wife, Amber of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Jonathan Hooks and his wife Jennifer of Little Rock, Arkansas; Sara Barnes and her husband, Jim of Hamburg, Arkansas; Clint Slaten and his wife, Katy of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Clark Slaten of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Stuart Snell of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Lindsey Snell of Southlake, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Cale and Cade Slaten and Katherine Barnes.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Friday, July 9, 2010 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel with Bro. Larry Bloomfield officiating. Interment will be in the Atchley Cemetery at Dalark, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Wayne Hughes, Jonathan Hooks, Jim Barnes, Clint Slaten, Clark Slaten, and Stuart Snell. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandson's Cale and Cade Slaten.

Memorial may be made to the Manchester United Methodist Church or Bethlehem Methodist Church.
