Her body was broken, but she has been restored. Rachel Ann (Ellis) Lacy passed from this earth on April 10, 2020 at the age of 72. She was greeted in Heaven by her husband of 54 years, Roger Lacy, father James W. Ellis Jr, and a brother, James W. Ellis IV. She is survived by her mother Ruby Ellis, daughter Victoria Powell (Robert) and son, Michael Lacy (Tracy), sister Mary Styles (Neal), grandchildren Lacy Goin (Brandon), John-Michael Powell (Serena), Hunter Lacy, Trey McKim, and Sabrina Lacy, seven great grandchildren all of Benton as well as niece Amy Ellis Wiggins of Sterlington, LA, and nephew Justin Camp of Benton.
Rachel was born on August 10, 1947 in Benton, Arkansas to James "Jim" and Ruby Ellis and was the eldest of three children. Rachel was a lifelong resident of Benton and graduate of Benton High School. She established several craft-based businesses throughout her adult life and some of her art was featured in craft style magazines.
Rachel married her sweetheart, Roger Lacy on January 17, 1964. They spent their 54 years together building a home based on their faith in the Lord. She became a mother in 1967, a grandmother in 1990, and a great grandmother in 2010. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren put a twinkle in her eye and a never-ending story on her lips.
Rachel never met a craft she didn't like. Whether it was painting, sewing, woodworking, knitting, crochet, punched tin, alcohol inks, it didn't matter. She tried it all. The grandchildren all spent time learning to sew from her lap before they could walk. No creative endeavor was ever denied. If the grandchildren wanted to draw with markers on the refrigerator or use an entire roll of tape on the floor, it was never a problem. No craft supply was ever off limits. She bestowed blessings on others through her artistic creations. If you knew her very long, you were likely the recipient of a handmade card or jewelry or perhaps some other creative knickknack.
Mimi, as she was called by her grandchildren, was a colorful, vibrant mother, grandmother, and friend who was always up for anything. She loved a good party, going out to eat with friends, and visiting with strangers. She enjoyed gardening, camping, spending time with, and mentoring children. A simple nature walk would soon turn into a lesson on soapstone carving or the lifecycle of a frog.
As a young girl, Rachel placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church for more than 53 years where she previously sang in the choir, served in the children's ministry, acted as a greeter, and small group host.
