Phoebe Dale Norman passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014. Phoebe was born February 11, 1933 in Springfield, Illinois to William Edson Darby and Maureen MacVicar Darby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. Norman, her son Daniel Ralph Norman and her sister, Sue Darby Gaston.
She is survived by two sisters, Lucette Darby White and Virginia Ann Darby Kocinski and four adult children, William Robert LaFollette, Phoebe Ellen Bullard, Dillard David Norman, and Matthew Dale Norman; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Jean Bullard, Kathleen Dale Mulrenin, Melissa Ellen Bade, William Blake Norman, Robert Colton LaFollette, Abigail Laura Norman, Meghan Phoebe Bullard, Phoebe Leigh Bloomfield and Jackson Norman Bloomfield; four great-grandchildren, Steven Thomas Mulrenin, Adelyn Grace Mulrenin, Leah Kathleen Mulrenin and Hadley Lowen Bade; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Phoebe attended Newcomb College (Tulane) and the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta fraternity. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Highland Valley United Methodist Church, and the Mary Martha Circle. She was an active member of the Scattered Seeds Garden Club and a sustaining member of the Twentieth Century Sustainers Club.
A great cook and hostess, her generosity of spirit and soul always made everyone feel welcome. The Monday Morning Bridge Club was one of her favorite activities. While she could call the Hogs with the best of them and was thrilled with hitting the daily double at Oaklawn Park, nothing excited her more than being with her children and grandchildren. A true lady, she leaves a marvelous legacy of kindness, humility, and courage.
The family requests memorials be made in honor of Phoebe D. Norman to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, 4301 W. Markham, Slot 623-F, Little Rock, AR 72205. The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter D. Emanuel for all of his loving care.
Visitation will be Monday evening March 3rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday March 4th at Highland Valley United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wade Shownes and Reverend David Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Alexander, AR.
