PHILIP BOYD ENGLISH of Little Rock passed away on February 20, 2007. Born in Beckville, Texas, on September 10, 1924, he died in Little Rock at the age of 82.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Cora and Virgil Guy English, as well as his older brothers, Guy, Glenn, and Willard English. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorothy English. His children are Philip and Deborah English of Baltimore, MD; Beverly and Jim McKenzie; Margaret English; Donna Stockton of Atlanta, GA; and Debbie and Bob Sadler. His grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as ?BiggE,? are Elizabeth and Bryan Kropf of Glen Arm, MD; Bark and Rachel English of Austin, TX; Katie and Nunie Escovedo; Betsy and Jason Culp; Sarah and Charlie Sandusky of Jacksonville, FL; Stuart Hiserodt of Austin, TX; Philip Hiserodt of New Orleans, LA; Emily English; Ashley English; Jake Sadler; and Hunter Sadler. His great grandchildren are Gabby, John-Philip, and Brady Escovedo; Walker and Maggie Culp; Evan Sandusky; Lucas English; and Charles Kropf.
He served with distinction in the Marine Corp during WWII as part of the Pacific Theater and the Korean Conflict. Phil went on to graduate from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. He then worked for Mutual of New York in Shreveport before moving to Little Rock in 1957 to become General Manager for Mutual of New York for the state of Arkansas. He later established his own insurance agency and remained an active independent agent until his death.
Phil was an active member of First United Methodist Church and served on the board in several positions. Later, Dorothy and he became founding members of Fellowship Bible Church where he served in various capacities along with helping to establish the pastoral care service for Fellowship.
He loved his family, friends and food! He was an exceptional cook and was known as ?Chef?. He will be loved and missed by all that knew him.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 at Fellowship Bible Church by North Little Rock Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1921 Main, 758-1170.
In his honor, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society,
Family Life, or Heifer International.
