Perry Young

Perry Young, 84, of Little Rock passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Erwin Ward Young of 54 years. He was born in Sterlington, Louisiana on April 29, 1926 the youngest child of Perry Young, Sr. and Donie Trusler Young. Perry was a Navy Veteran of WWII where he was stationed in Hawaii. He then graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas. He worked for the Withrow Company before establishing his own business, Arkansas School Service and Uni-Lab Manufacturing and later School Fixtures Company. Perry was a very creative person who enjoyed woodworking and created many fine pieces of furniture for family and friends. He also took pleasure in cooking for others and no one left his house hungry. When you entered the Young's home you were treated as family.
Mr. Young is survived by his daughter, Lisa Young Joyce (Dan) of Little Rock; son, Dr. Mark Young (Suzy) of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer, Margo and Winston Young all of Memphis, TN. Perry is also survived by a sister, Mildred Young Foster of Little Rock and her children, Libby McDaniel and George Foster. The family gives many thanks to his caregivers at Briarwood Nursing Home. A special thanks to Dr. Ahmed Abdelal for his thoughtful care. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Young's family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Rice Depot Food for Kids Program, 3810 W. 65th St., Little Rock, AR 72209 or online at www.ricedepot.org. Private graveside services will be at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
