Pauline Russenberger

Pauline Russenberger, 98, passed away on December 15, 2016. She was born in Little Rock on October 5, 1918 to Clifford and Pearl Singleton. Shortly after her birth, Pauline's mother passed away, a victim of the Great 1918 Flu outbreak. Following her mother's death, Pauline's maternal grandparents, George (Papa) and Molly Nix, stepped in to provide a home for her and her brother. She remained grateful to them throughout her life for providing a loving environment in which the two could grow.

On December 16, 1939, Pauline married James Jacob Russenberger at Primrose United Methodist Church in Little Rock. She became an active member of the church around the same time. Over the years, she served Primrose in numerous capacities: a member of the choir for years, Sunday School teacher, youth director and counselor, a member of the Board, church treasurer and other capacities. Pauline was always eager to help bake cakes and pies and prepare special dishes for church supported functions. She remained a loyal member of the church until her death, and at the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the congregation.

Having raised her children, Pauline worked several years as a pharmacy assistant at two neighborhood pharmacies. She also volunteered at a local hospital for over ten years, always getting to the hospital by 5:30 a.m. on volunteer days to assure coffee was ready for the families of patients awaiting surgery. In addition, she was an active member of Southwest Little Rock AARP, Chapter 1239. Pauline was honored by AARP as a volunteer leader of the year during the early part of this decade for her work in obtaining a permanent space and home for Chapter 1239.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russenberger; her parents, Clifford and Pearl Singleton; her maternal grandparents, George and Molly Nix; and her brother, Gordon Singleton. Survivors include her daughter, Judith Alexander; her son, James G. Russenberger (Ola); grandchildren, Mark Alexander, Kelly Alexander, Doug Russenberger (Cindy) and Jamie Russenberger; and great-grandchildren, Zach Russenberger (Montana), Jake Russenberger; and step-great-grandchildren, Reagan and Drew Martin.

The funeral service will be held at Primrose United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Primrose United Methodist Church.

Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (501)224-2200. Mrs. Russenberger's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
