Paula Reed was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 27, 1969 to Marvin and Alice Winston. She went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Her family and friends will remember her for her love of her family, the military, aircraft and shooting her weapons. Paula was a very kind and compassionate person. She loved to go to the range, watch movies and hang out with her friends.
Paula graduated from Roland High School in Roland, Oklahoma in 1987. She furthered her education, became an LPN and graduated from Pulaski Tech with an associate degree. In 1991, Paula enlisted in the National Guard where she served for eleven years. She was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom II in October of 2003. She returned from Iraq and was then deployed in support of Hurricane Katrina in October, 2005 with the 39th Support Battalion Brigade Combat Team. Paula worked as a Health Care Specialist, also called Medic. She worked hard for her country and earned many awards. She earned the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device. She also earned the Army Service Ribbon, Arkansas Federal Service Ribbon, Arkansas Emergency Service Ribbon, Combat Medic Badge and Army Good Conduct Medal.
Paula married and had two handsome boys, Richard Keegan Louis Reed and Joseph Craton Houston Reed.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Keegan Louis Reed and Joseph Craton Houston Reed of Alma, Arkansas; father, Marvin William Winston II of Maumelle; brother, Marvin William Winston III (Karen) also of Maumelle; two sisters, Victoria Kordsmeier (Kevin) of Little Rock and Mary Barnes of Maumelle; and her niece and nephews, Trevor, Zachary, Matthew and Caleb Winston, John and Brandon Barnes and Chloe Kordsmeier.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 30, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. Chapel services will be Monday, December 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Deacon Brunon Strozyk officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
