Paul Van Parys, 78, of Sherwood, passed away August 17, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Adella Van Parys; daughters, Monica Parish (Gary) of Bryant, Marsha Eggburn (Mitch) of Sheridan and Michele Fulmer (Ron) of Little Rock; sisters, Joan Rockwell (Joe) of Pittsford, New York and Helen Ceravolo (Ron) of Newark, New York; grandchildren, Matt Van Parys (Lindsay) of Sherwood, Eric, Joseph, and Anna Eggburn of Sheridan, Brandon Parish of Bryant and Brooke Midkiff (Kyle) of Wynne; great-grandson, Myles Van Parys, "the next hard headed Dutchman"; and a host of other family and friends.
Paul was born to Louis and Christina (VandeVoorde) Van Parys on May 28, 1938 in Clifton Springs, New York. He graduated from Newark High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base, he met his wife, Adella Cagle. He served overseas at Zaragoza, Spain where his first daughter, Monica, was born. Returning "stateside" to the Little Rock Air Force Base, middle daughter, Marsha, was born. After an honorable discharge due to hearing problems, they moved to upstate New York, where Michele completed the family. He worked for the Kodak Company before moving back to Arkansas where he carried mail for the United States Postal Service for 42 years.
His favorite times included anytime he was with his family, watching sports on his tri-screen TV's, where his loyalties were with the Arkansas Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals, with their dog, Mutzy, by his side, and telling as many corny jokes as his family could tolerate. He will be greatly missed, but these memories and so many more will live on through his family and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 21 from 5-7 p.m. at Sherwood Funeral Home, 7515 Warden Road, Sherwood. Graveside services with Military Honors will be Monday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
