Obituary for Paul Marsh Cleveland
Paul Marsh Cleveland, 94, died 8 Aug 2023 in Bee Branch, AR at his nieceâs. Clara Ruth Bassâ, home where he lived since 2018. He was born in Lake Placid, NY, on 12 Feb 1929 to Jesse Grover Cleveland (1887 â 1975) and Hazel Imogene Whipple (1897 â 1996), the 4th child of 5 children. His siblings were:

He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1947, when he was 17 years old and was sent to post WWII Japan where he worked as radar watcher, materials acquisitionist and an orderly. It was in Shiriya Sai, Japan in 1950, where Paul met his wife, Keiko âKayâ Shimada (1934 â 2015), who was born and raised there. Because it was post WWII, Paul was forbidden to marry a Japanese woman at that time. He was forced to return back to the states and he worked for 3 years to get permission to marry Keiko.
He returned to Japan and they were married on 9 Nov 1954 in Tokyo. On 18 Feb, 1955, Paul, Keiko & their first daughter,
Yoko, departed from Yokohama, for the United States on the U. S. Navy ship General Daniel I. Sultan, arriving in San Francisco
on 28 Feb, 1955. He was an orderly in San Francisco, a custodial engineer at GE in NY, and a hotel clerk in Syracuse, NY and retired from the Postal Service in Bernhards Bay, NY in 1990. They had their home in Constantia, NY and had ten children:

He is survived by all of his children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
