Patsy Overstreet

Patsy Clarice Augustine Robbins Overstreet, 89, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with the Lord June 1, 2020. She was born August 24, 1930 in Hicks, Arkansas to the late Allen and Myrtle (Jones) Robbins.
Patsy leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters: Sandy Burbank and husband Dean of Benton, Arkansas, Susan Bush and husband Richard of Austin, Texas, and Robin Overstreet of Benton, Arkansas; son, Tim Overstreet and wife Cyndi of Colonial Heights, Virginia; four grandchildren: Michael Burbank, Matthew Burbank and wife Sarah, Mark Burbank, and Georgeann Burbank; great-grandchildren, Parker Burbank and Stella Burbank; brother, Dale Robbins and wife Gail of Magnolia, Arkansas; sister, Peggy Moore of Prescott, Arkansas; and many more family members and friends who love Patsy and will miss her always.
Preceding Patsy in death are her husband, Harold Overstreet; and her parents, Allen and Myrtle Robbins.
Throughout her life, Patsy Clarice Augustine Robbins Overstreet showed her unfailing faith in God, provided unconditional and never-interfering love to her family, and made every occasion an event. Patsy became a Christian when she was 9 years old. When she was baptized, the preacher incorrectly called her Gertrude Dobbins instead of Patsy Robbins. She said it was okay--God knew who she was.
Patsy had 4 years of perfect attendance in school. She sang bass in an all-girls chorus in Glee club. She had many fond memories from her 5 years working at the Texarkana Gazette & Daily News. Due to her creativity and organization, she could have easily had a career as an event planner and interior decorator. Patsy was married to Harold for 52 years and during that time, she moved 26 times. She lived in her final Texarkana home for 26 years later before moving to Benton five years after Harold's death, to live near two of her daughters. And she found the perfect home with a screened in porch and white picket fence.
Harold gave Patsy red roses for birthdays and anniversaries. She lived in Turkey, Germany, Italy, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, and New Jersey. One of her favorite memories was Easter Sunrise Service in Ephesus, Turkey, and when the twins were 5 months old, she traveled by herself with them to Turkey when Harold had to travel earlier.
Patsy loved to cook and plan special meals with recipes from her many cookbooks. Her children enjoyed some of her "experiments" more than others! She made her 5 lb. fudge candy for family and friends every year except one since she was 16...and her sister happened to make and ship it to her. After her health kept her from being able to make it, she passed down the recipe and technique to her granddaughters, Georgeann Burbank and Sarah Burbank.
Two of the many family dinners Patsy hosted were in 1988-on the same day. She hosted lunch for her Dad and dinner for her mother-in-law (Allen Robbins and Beatrice Overstreet) who were born the same day, the same year. With 3 dozen family members each occasion, the total cost was only $76.34!
Patsy made each of her three daughters' first formals. She designed and made Sandy's wedding gown, which daughter-in-love Cyndi later wore. She created many costumes for Robin's theater productions. Patsy, her sister Peggy, and sister-in-law Gail, helped or did the flowers, decorating, cake and food for Sandy & Dean's, Tim and Cyndi's, and Susan and Richard's weddings.
Patsy's favorite book was Two from Galilee by Marjorie Holmes. An avid reader, she read hundreds of books each year and often worked crossword and word finder puzzles. Her favorite songs were ‘Neath the Old Olive Tree, which had special meaning to her because of seeing the olive trees in Turkey, and I'd Rather Have Jesus, which she regularly played on the piano.
No matter where she lived, Patsy's home was a "waystation" for traveling family and friends, whether overnight, a visit or food. Robin's friends started referring to her as Aunt Bea (from the Andy Griffith show). When any of her children moved homes, she was always there to lend a hand. Her health permitting, Patsy was at the side of family members. Patsy passed all their family traditions to daughter Sandy as the new family matriarch. Richard and Susan, Tim and Cyndi, and Robin are so thankful for the love and selfless care provided by Sandy and her family during the last 3 years of Patsy's life that she lived with them.
