Patricia Lee Barksdale, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 77, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on October 1, 1946, to JD Chandler and Mattie Sue Chandler Appling in Memphis, Tennessee. Patricia dedicated her life to nursing and retired as a registered nurse in Huntsville, Alabama.
Patricia’s greatest joys in life were her two daughters, Audra McCay Prince and Leesa McCay Hasselbacher, and her four granddaughters, Madeline Lee Prince, Laura Michelle Williams, Audra Elizabeth Williams, and Alexandra McCay Prince. She could frequently be heard bragging about her girls to anyone that would listen. Her granddaughters and many others lovingly called her Mimi.
In her younger years, Mimi enjoyed going to the beach and playing card games with her daughters and granddaughters. Mimi embraced her role as a grandmother. She shared countless tea parties with Madeline, after-school snacks with Laura and Beth, and high heel dress up sessions with Alexandra. She also had a wicked sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes.
Patricia was a passionate fan of the Auburn Tigers. She shared her love for Auburn with her daughters and granddaughters. Patricia never missed watching an Auburn football game and cherished her phone calls with Audra and Leesa to celebrate (or commiserate) each game’s result. She took pride in teaching all of her girls the words to the Auburn fight song and each of Auburn’s cheers. War Eagle!
She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Leesa McCay Hasselbacher. She is survived by her daughter, Audra McCay Prince; granddaughters, Madeline Lee Prince, Laura Michelle Williams, Audra Elizabeth Williams, and Alexandra McCay Prince; son-in-law, Chris Hasselbacher (Leesa); and a host of other extended family and friends.
To honor Patricia’s love for the Auburn Tigers, her family requests that memorials be made out to Auburn University, https://auburngiving.org/how-to-give/ in her memory.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, details will be updated here on our website when available.
