Orval Eugene "Ham" Floyd

October 25, 1929 — November 2, 2020

Orval Eugene “Ham” Floyd, age 91, of Norman, went to meet his Lord on Monday, November 2, 2020.

He was born on October 25, 1929, in Calera, Oklahoma, the son of Orval Roy Floyd and Iva Lee Earnest Floyd. Meeting him on Monday were his parents; his brothers and sister-in-law, Vernon Floyd and Lester and LaWana Floyd; and his three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Iva Lou and Jesse Reeves, Betty and Ray Wigington and Sue Lanier.

On May 6, 1950, in Clayton, New Mexico, Orval married the love of his life, Melva Jean Robbins, and this year the two of them celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage.

Orval was a kind, caring and a giving man. He enjoyed living on the farm, hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Austria, where he used his welding skills to fix Army equipment. He retired as the Superintendent of Bechtal Corporation at Arkansas Nuclear One and Two.

His greatest pride and joy was his family, and to his grandsons, Pa was their hero and loved it when he would say “Oh don’t tell your Ma!” Orval was a kid spoiler and he loved his great-grandchildren with all his heart and he would smile when they would say, “I love you Pa”. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him, but he has left us a legacy of memories to carry on in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melva Jean Floyd of Norman; his two children born from their wonderful union, Tana Floyd of Norman and Kevin Floyd of Russellville; his grandsons and their spouses, Shane and Sarah Floyd of Russellville and Sean and Bethany Floyd of Hot Springs; his great-grandchildren, Camden, Griffin, Kinslee and Kendal. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Omega Floyd and two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Harlan and Jean Robbins and Damon and Royce Robbins; many nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.

There will be a private family graveside service held in Robbins Cemetery with Bro. Bernard Rusert officiating

Pallbearers will be Darin Robbins, Gary Robbins, Billy Kibbey, Barry Smith, Steve Fisher and Kyle Whatley.

Honorary pallbearers will be The Floyd Nieces and Nephews, members of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 155, Terry Black, Truett Love and Charlie Mason.
