Ordis D. Copeland, Sr. 89, of North Little Rock passed from this life Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Ordis was born on July 3, 1918 in Pleasant Home, Arkansas. He was the son of J.A. and Georgia Copeland as the 11th of 13 children.
Ordis was a graduate of Harding University in Searcy. He had a career in teaching and coaching throughout Arkansas from 1939 to 1952. Ordis was an inspiring preacher for over 60 years. For the last several years, he was a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. He was a talented basketball player and when given the opportunity to play at a NCAA Division 1 school, he turned it down to pursue a life of ministry.
He is survived by his wife, Montine Copeland, of North Little Rock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronny and Betty Copeland, of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry and Nita Copeland, of North Little Rock and Ordis and Patti Copeland, of Millington, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Herb Cummings, of Collierville, Tennessee; three stepsons; seventeen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Joy Alexander, of Delight, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ with a family visitation from noon until service time at the church building: 117 West Maryland Avenue, Sherwood, Arkansas.
