Mrs. Opal Oleta Goad Apollos, age 91, of Antoine, died Friday, April 27, 2012. She was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Gamaliel, Ky, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Katherine Goad. In 1938 she loved and married Mr. Elzie Cardell Apollos. They were married for sixty three years, in which they began a journey from Kentucky to West Texas to Oregon and later to the Antoine area. Here they remained to work in the sawmill industry and later became the owners of a bustling store that was the local hangout for all teenagers of the area. Her greatest accomplishments were being a strong, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her and a lifetime member of the Antoine Baptist Church. She was simply known to all as 'Gran'.
She was preceded in death by husband Cardell; daughter, Nancy Imogene Spickard; and great granddaughter Tara Chantel Ruchalski and five siblings, Bose Goad, Cecil Goad, Enola Goad, Olene Goad, and Kathleen Rich.
Survivors include her daughter Linda Maurine Griffith and husband Morgan and one brother Mr. Orvis Goad and wife Elaine of Woodstock, IL. Surviving granddaughters are Tamara Hankins; Angela Fabian; Gena Gregston; Kimra Osburn; Paula Mentzer; Monica Brannon; and one grandson Mark Spickard. Gran has 13 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Antoine Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Antoine Cemetery under the direction of the Ruggles - Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
