Odell Davis

The fruitful life of Jewell Odell Davis of North Little Rock began May 14, 1923 in Marion County, Arkansas, born to the loving, proud parents, Bertha Faulkenberry Davis and Andrew Davis. He graduated from Yellville Summit High School. In 1943 Odell married the one true love of his life, Vinita Massey. Later they welcomed their only child, Charolette Davis Ashley. Odell was an exceptionally adoring and devoted daddy. During World War II he was drafted to Okinawa, Japan.
After moving to North Little Rock Odell taught most of the barbers in Central Arkansas at Eaton?s Barber College. He then opened the Tower Building Barber Shop, which still thrives.
Odell was a member of Yellville Summit Masonic Lodge and although he moved to Little Rock, his heart and soul was forever in the hills of north Arkansas.
Since 1964 Odell was a member at Levy Baptist Church and sang bass in the choir.
Odell Davis is survived by his loving, only child, Charolette Davis Ashley and her husband, J.D. Ashley, Sr. of North Little Rock, his only grandchild, Candace Ashley Baughman and her husband, Irvin Baughman of Cabot, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren that believed in ?Dadell? always, Hunter Davis Baughman and Payton Grace Baughman of Cabot; his sister, Neville Methvin Bogle of Harrison, Arkansas; his step-grandchildren, J.D. Ashley, Jr., Richard Ashley, Melody Ashley, and Todd Ashley, all of North Little Rock.
Odell was preceded in death by his bride of forty-two years, Vinita Massey Davis; his parents, Bertha and Andrew Davis; sister, Leona Smeltzer; brother Ewell Davis; half-sister, Nora Ellis; and great-grandson, Cole Dorsey Baughman.
Odell will forever be remembered, loved, respected, and revered as a cherished part of our family?s legacy. Thank you for the years of unconditional love and unwavering devotion. We have loved you all our lives ?Dadell?, and forever and always will.
Tunya Dokes assisted Mr. Davis for approximately seven years prior to his death on June 29, 2007, at the age of 84. Shameca Horton and Diedra Brown assisted him the last year of his life. He, as well as his family, so appreciated their caring and commitment to him.
Funeral will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Otto Brown officiating. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
