O. V. Guthrie

O. V. Guthrie, age 90, of Amity, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020.

He was born on September 15, 1930 in Caddo Gap, the son of Joseph Andrew Guthrie and Nettie Pearl Hopper Guthrie. On June 12, 1955, he was married to Sarah Williams Guthrie who preceded him in death on May 21, 2009.

A United States Army veteran, he served with the 11th Airborne in Korea and Germany. He was also a proud and active member of the Amity United Methodist Church. A member of the Carpenter’s Union, O. V. started as a carpenter but worked his way to supervisor of some very large commercial construction projects. He loved his family, working on his farm and enjoyed getting in the car and traveling. O. V. was known to be selfless in his nature and willing to help anyone whenever he could.

He is survived by two children and their spouses, Laurie and John Clark of Amity and Joey and Lynn Guthrie of Sparkman; three grandchildren, Dustin Deaton and his wife, Laiken, Sarah Gaddis and Dalton Guthrie; and four great-grandchildren, Gaige Deaton, Hadley Gaddis, Gunner Deaton and Liam Gaddis.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in the Amity United Methodist Church with Bro. Glen Harris and Bro. David Kassos officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Social distancing directives will be in place with no more than 66% of the total seating capacity occupied at the church and the chapel, avoidance of physical contact and all attendees 10 years of age or older must be wearing a face covering at all times.

Interment with military honors will be in Jones Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Memorials may be made to the Amity United Methodist Church Youth Fund, PO Box 142, Amity, Arkansas 71921.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Bush, Roy Owens and Vestor Wilson.
