Omie T. "Fonzie" Thornton age 77 of Bismarck was set free Thursday, May 15, 2008 in a Hot Springs hospital. He was born September 19, 1931 in Wade, Oklahoma the son of the late Earl and Ellen Payne Thornton. O. T. was a retired barber and electrician, a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyce Ray Thorton and Watson Thornton, one sister, Evalyn Thorton Burroughs, and one daughter, Rebecca Thornton.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Martha Thornton; one son, Fonzie Earl Thornton of Bismarck, one daughter, Ruth Ellen Carroll of Virginia, one brother, Winston Thornton of Yucca, CA and one sister, Shirley Ann Berg of Cleveland, Tennessee, one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Howard Rowton and Bro. Van Glidewell officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers will be Doug Green, Matt Ellis, Aaron Collier, Blake Loy, Leon Thornton and Eddie Humphry. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Wright, Rick Smoke, Harold Thornton, Kevin Mehalic, Victor Quick and Steve Blodgett.
