Norman Edward Wells, also known as Ted, but known to us as Dad, died February 19, 2009 at his home in Glendale, Oregon. The world lost a lovable, honorary and stubborn old man, a good neighbor, a kind friend and a caring father. Dad always tried to help his fellow man. He was as honest as they came. Ted was born one of ten children, to Maggie and Morgan Wells on January 31, 1930 in Gurdon, Arkansas. He was raised on a farm and loved fishing and squirrel hunting as a young boy. He married Esma "Sue" Smart in 1948. They moved to Glendale in 1951, where they raised two daughters and one son. After their divorce, he married Dorothy Hatton in 1976. She preceded him death. Dad worked for 48 years in local sawmills. In his spare time he loved hunting and fishing, and made several trips with his son and grandsons to Alaska.
One of his favorite things was to play dominoes and checkers. Dad was most definitely hard to beat; if you beat him he always wanted to play until he won. He will be sorely missed by fellow game players along with all of his friends and family.
Survivors are two daughters, Peggy Barry and Janie Cullison, and one son, Bobby Wells, all of Glendale. He is also survived by two brothers, Allen and Pryce Wells of Glendale, Nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. We Will Miss you Dad!
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, February 27, 2009 at South Fork Cemetery near Gurdon. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
