Newton Leon McNew of Sherwood passed away Monday, December 7 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born February 11, 1948 to Sherrill and Mildred McNew of North Little Rock.
He was a graduate of North Little Rock High School class of 1966 and graduated from University of Central Arkansas. He served his country in the United States Naval Reserves, worked for Hiwasse Manufacturing Co., Inc. and then retired from Unileiver Best Foods, Inc. (Skippy Peanut Butter). An avid outdoorsman and hunter, who was a very creative artist and poet, loved his grandchildren dearly and was involved in their daily lives; lifelong member of the Nazarene faith.
Newton was preceded in death by his son, Shane Leon McNew and his parents. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet Louise (Skinner) McNew and two daughters, Melody Dawn Roachell (Shawn) of North Little Rock, Heather Suzanne Carpenter (Clifford Grant III) Birmingham, AL. Five grandchildren, Newton Emmitt Wayne McNew, Accyllia Bethany Roachell, Hannah Elizabeth Carpenter-McNew, Clifford Grant IV and Heather Roachell; one great-grandchild Ryley Roachell; two sisters, Shirley Chambers (Jack) of Cabot and Sherry Free (Joe) of Beebe; three brothers, Harold McNew (Mary) of Little Rock, John P. McNew (Groverlon) of Vilonia, Mark McNew (Belinda) of Cabot; a dear aunt and uncle John D. and Mattie Jo McNew of North Little Rock.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sherwood First Church of The Nazarene (8800 Highway 107, Sherwood, Arkansas 72120) with burial at Rest Hills Memorial Park in Sherwood.
