Nellie Odell Parks

June 1, 1918 — April 9, 2022

Carlisle

Nellie Odell Parks, known affectionately to everyone as Granny, was born June 1, 1918 in the Plainview Community to Eva and Homer Pinson.  She went to be with the Lord April 9, 2022.  She married Ralph Parks on December 21, 1935 and enjoyed their many years together until Ralph was called home on April 24, 1997.

Granny has had varied careers.  She helped Ralph with dairy and cotton farming on the family farm.  Other jobs included working at a cap factory, part-time in a school cafeteria, Myrtle Highfill’s restaurant, Kellwood and at the KFC in Carlisle.  Throughout her busy life she raised three children and always had time to help friends and family alike.

She played an active role in the lives of her loved ones, baking wedding cakes, helping with the children of her family hosting all types of family holidays and get-togethers.  She quilted, sewed and loved fishing and camping.  Her entire life was dedicated to loving her family welcoming each new addition as one of her own.  She was active in her church, being the oldest member of the Hebron Church.  She enjoyed gardening, wood and ceramic work.  Yes, she was a busy lady!  She will be greatly missed by all.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her son Bobby Parks, daughter Glenda Ricks and husband Bobby, grandchild April Miles and great grandchild Caden Ingle.

She is survived by daughter Shirley and her husband Joe Harrison, and daughter-in-law Sue Parks.  She had nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.
