Nellie Mae Johnson of North Little Rock passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010. She was born August 18, 1915 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Walter and Nellie Jones Stanley. After finishing college at Draughon's Business College during the great depression, she began working with her father, who was the long time owner of Stanley Hardware. She retired as comptroller from the North Little Rock Water Department after more than forty years of service after starting her career with the old Park Hill Water Company. During that period of her life she witnessed first hand the development of much of North Little Rock.
After retiring to Mountain View, Arkansas, she was involved in many of the activities of the town that she came to love. It was a sad day when she had to leave her many friends and move closer to family. She loved to design and make quilts and has left her family many treasured quilts. She was a long time member of Levy Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Mountain View and North Hills Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steve Johnson; five brothers, Earl, Leonard, Ralph, Clarence, and Herbert Stanley.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ryman Johnson; one son and daughter-in-law, Ryman and Linda Johnson, Jr. of North Little Rock; one sister, Zula Luker Broyles of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Heather Johnson of Conway, James Johnson of Monroe, Louisiana, Margaret Worthy of North Little Rock; three great grandchildren, Michael, Erin, and Aidan.
Her family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Lakewood Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice, who lovingly cared for her in her final days of life.
Memorials may be made to Carti or the charity of your choice.
