Neal E. Burton, age 86, of Point Cedar, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at his home. He was born on November 7, 1932 in the Beaton community near Bismarck, the son of Delmas Elmo Burton and Evelyn Mary Emory Burton. On October 24, 1951, he was married to Anna Shirley. He was preceded in death by two sons, Rickey Burton and Phillip Burton; his parents; his brother, Frank Burton; and his sister, Corine Hall. He was a member of the Philippi Church of Christ and served as song leader. For many years, he was a fireman with the Point Cedar Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, camping, floating the river, and especially, writing, whether it be stories or poems. He loved putting his thoughts to paper. He is survived by his wife, Anna Burton of Point Cedar; two daughters, Rhonda (Jim) Jackson of Bismarck and Phyllis (Steve) Nunn of Arkadelphia; his son, Darie (Becky) Burton of Pearcy; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen King of Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2019, in the Philippi Church of Christ with Luke Henson officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Philippi Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Philippi Church of Christ Cemetery Fund account at any Chambers Bank. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
