Naomi Slatton

Naomi Roberta Nivens Slatton was born May 12, 1923 and went home to the Lord on November 4, 2018. She was the second of nine children born to Ad and Minnie Nivens in Hempstead County. She was known for being a kind, generous, vivacious, hardworking, and fiercely independent woman. During high school, she went to work as a switchboard operator in Blevins, Arkansas. After graduation, she transferred to Longview, Texas where she continued working for the phone company and served with the Texas Women's Defense Corps to help entertain the troops before they deployed. She married Foster Slatton after the war and had her daughter, Carolyn, on April 1, 1947. Naomi was a charter member of Park Hill Baptist and retired from the phone company after forty-two years of devoted work.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved daughter, Carolyn Moore; sisters, Esther Howell and Snow Hill; brothers, John, Leroy, Lyndell, and Wyndell; loving aunt and uncle, Lottie and Young Nesbit, and her dear friend, James Hughes.
She is survived by her sisters, Bobbye Calhoon and Ruby Brown; loving cousin, Patricia Nesbit Andrews; grandchildren, Ashley Robbins (Douglas), Austin Moore (Michelle); great-grandchildren Carson, Maxwell, and Cole Robbins, Rachel and her fiancé, Adrian Jones, Dominique, Rainlyn, and Phoenix Moore, and many nieces and nephews she adored.
