Nancy Perkins

Nancy (Wilma) Perkins-Frazier, 83, of North Little Rock, Arkansas died Friday, June 11, 2010.
She was born to the late John Perkins and Memphis Willis (Big Mama), February 12, 1927 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. As the second oldest daughter, and the oldest sister remaining at home, Nancy was like a second mother to her siblings; she was Big Mama's backbone and faithful helper, sharing an unbearable workload after her father's death: cooking, cleaning, helping with homework and caring for her younger siblings.
She obtained her GED later in life while working two jobs and majored in Gerontology while attending Los Angeles City College for two years. She put her education to work as Home Healthcare Provider and Service Provider to senior citizen day dare facilities. Nancy was passionate about gardening and raising exotic flowers such as tiger lilies and birds of paradise. Her hands bore a special gift, not only for nurturing fruits, vegetables and flowers, but also for restoring and upholstering antique French furniture. Her creativity included mastering the power sewing machine in which she created intimate apparel. She exhibited an inspiring entrepreneurial spirit that grabbed your attention and motivated you to do something productive.
Nancy's home was an open house to family and friends and to whoever was down on their luck and needed a helping hand; she was always there rescuing many in, perhaps, their darkest hour; a faithful friend you could always count on.
A member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, her faith in Almighty God led the way for reliance on a higher power that infinitely exceeds any earthly means of comfort. She had a pioneering spirit that will forever touch the hearts of those of us who love her.
In June of 2008, Nancy moved with her daughter and youngest granddaughter in North Little Rock, Arkansas where she live the remainder of her life. She is survived by her sister Mildred Brown of N orth Little Rock, the sole survivor of 11 siblings (5 brothers and 5 sisters). She is also survived by her son, Michael Berry of Seattle, Washington and her daughter, Norva Lee Miller-Johnson of North Little Rock, Arkansas; and her two granddaughters Angela Johnson and Norvell Johnson. She is remembered by her nephews, nieces and relatives: Clarence, Kenny, Gaston Jr., Timothy and Sheila; Wilbert Jr., Gloria, Linda, Cynthia, Carolyn and Kevin; Lafayette, Kenyatta, Mary, Tuttie, Paul, Elaine, Phillip and Payton; Wanda, Oscar, Luanzo, Mujera and John; her sister-in-laws Dorothy Perkins, Ivy Perkins; her brother-in-law Gaston Scranton Sr.; Sonny Man and many other cousins; her friends Eula, Armenia, Donia, and many other relatives and friends,
Nancy will lie in peaceful repose for viewing on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the final tribute service starting at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Huson Funeral Home on 7700 Hwy 107, in Sherwood.
