Mrs. Betty Schnarr

Betty Mae Seigrist Schnarr, 81, of North Little Rock, died on January 22, 2010.

She was born to Roy and Ella Seigrist on June 8, 1928 in Grandfield, Oklahoma.
She married the love of her life Roy Schnarr on July 7, 1947. Being an Army wife she had the chance to travel and live in numerous places; Petersburg, Virginia, El Paso, Texas, California, and Japan. Since Roy was helping build the first commercial bakery in Japan, Betty had the honor to have dinner with the Prime Minister of Japan and his wife.
Betty was a charter member of the Crystal Valley Baptist Church. She served as a Girl Scout leader.
Unable to have children of their own Betty and Roy kept foster children everywhere she lived including Japan. Betty eventually adopted five children. However, she remained a foster parent until a crippling stroke in January of 2008. Betty had been a foster parent for over 115 children and had the joy of many of these children still considering her their mom even as adults. She continued to receive visits from these children until her passing. Betty worked tirelessly to help reunite parents with their children. These parents considered her a mentor and called upon her for knowledge to help maintain their family unit years after they had been reunited. In the 1970 Mother's Day special The Arkansas Democrat listed Betty as one of their three choices for Mother of the Year.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband (Roy Schnarr Sr.); a daughter, Luella Ann Schnarr; her parents Roy and Ella Seigrist; Sister Ruth Kaylor; and twin brother Billy Seigrist.
