Mitchell D. Carter, age 66, of Amity, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019. He was born on January 16, 1953, in Fresno, California, the son of John Lewis Carter and Ruth Mae Roberts Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Garcia Carter; his parents; and his sister, Ketha Cooksey. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a true outdoorsman. Mitchell will always be remembered as an avid rock-hound, because if you ever ran into him while he was outdoors you would find him with his head down, always looking for his next cherished rock. He dedicated his life to raising his children, whom he dearly loved with all his heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Crystal Ferry of Hot Springs, Roger Ferry of Arkadelphia and Michael Lawson of Guthrie, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Michael Pate of Amity; eight grandchildren, Michael Ferry, Bryan Ferry, Aubrey Ferry, Lauren Ferry, Makenzie Ferry, Nathan Ferry, Madison Pate and Mia Bella Pate; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Janice Carter of Mena, Cecil and Linda Carter and Roger and Trudy Carter, all of Glenwood; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Nadene Burgess of Glenwood, Lorece and Tommy Burgess of Conway, Connie Miller and Ellen Simpson, both of Glenwood; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends. Graveside services, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honors Team, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 31, 2019, in the Nelson Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Michael Ferry, Roger Ferry, Michael Pate, Jerry Carter, Cecil Carter and Roger Carter. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
