Mildred Weakland

Mildred Lavern Weakland, 99, of Little Rock, entered her heavenly home on September 3, 2020, 23 days short of her 100th birthday. Born in Gum Springs to David Arthur Brown and Emily Fulmer Brown, she retired from retail sales at J.C. Penney’s.  She was a devoted Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Little Rock for over 70 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Peters (Johnny), Rita Taylor (Donald), Betty Williams (Jim), and Laura Huber who says she’s the favorite because Ms. Mildred didn’t have to birth or raise her; grandchildren, Carla Jones (Bob), Dawn Sandleback (Brad), Timothy Crump, Richard B. Abshire and April McGowan (Kenny); great-grandchildren, Anna S., Maggie, Chris, Olivia, Anna C., Ashley, Grace, Katie and Sarah; great-great-grandchildren, Sam, Noah and Michelle; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth Weakland, grandson, Tony Crump, brothers, Clifton Brown and Charles Brown, and sister, Sybil Brown Lemons Parker.

Mildred loved to crochet, giving her gifts of doilies and other crocheted items to her family and friends. She made afghans and tablecloths for her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years, she loved to travel, going to 49 states and Canada. And she was known as the “Domino Queen.” Mildred loved her family dearly. We give special thanks to her caretakers, Carla Jones and Krystal Dodge for their loving care. When having a telephone conversation, our cue to hang up was when she said, “All is well here.” We know she’s in Heaven now, saying, “All is well here” and that is our cue to continue on.
