Mildred Jarvis Robbins, 99, of Beebe, Arkansas, died Monday, February 21, 2011. She was the only child of Ben Jarvis and Nellie Johnson Jarvis and was born September 24, 1911, in Beebe. She was married December 1, 1941, to Joseph Parrish Robbins of Piggott, Arkansas who predeceased her.
Mildred was the oldest living member of Beebe First United Methodist Church where she lent her beautiful soprano voice to the choir for many years. She was a school teacher, a forty-eight year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and taught at several schools, eventually retiring from the Jacksonville Junior High School. When a student at Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA), she broke all precedent by being elected the first female class officer. As a lover of antiques, which was cultivated by her mother, Miss Nellie, she traveled extensively with family and friends sightseeing and searching for that one "special" antique. Until her health deteriorated, she lived in one of Beebe's oldest homes (which survived the tornado of 1999). In the spring of each year people marveled at her gorgeous azaleas.
Although she had no biological children, she was a mother and "nanny" figure to many who loved her. Mildred is survived by her adopted family whom she loved as her own, Vernon and Carolyn Lovelady.
Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Beebe First United Methodist Church, with burial in Beebe Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 247, Beebe, AR 72012.
