Mildred Marie Heyne Mathews, of Little Rock, passed away July 5, 2009 at the age of 92. She was born in Lincoln, Arkansas on January 22, 1917 to Arno and Ida Heyne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William A. Mathews, Sr., grandson, Alex Mathews and brother, Sonny Heyne.
She is survived by her son, Bill Mathews II (Vicki) of Bryant, daughters, Susan Hall and Cathy Wagner (Bob) of Orlando, Florida and Dana Fowler of Little Rock; sister, Velma Onstadt (Bill) of Hot Springs, and sister-in-law, June Stuckey of Indiana. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mat Fowler (Sheila) of Little Rock, Amy Bryant (Jody) of North Little Rock, Lauren Miller (Jason) of Little Rock, Alex Wagner, Denise Pohlmann (Fred) and Larra Jahnke (Rick) of Orlando. Mildred was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, Christine and Luke Jahnke and Marcus, Christopher, Jon, Jacob and Steven Pohlmann of Orlando, Bailey and Peyton Fowler of Little Rock, Alora and Nick Fowler of North Little Rock and Samantha Reves of Kansas. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Evelyn Sims of Houston, Teri and Wayne Heyne of Oklahoma, Dudley and Sharon May of Baton Rouge and Carolyn Diemente (Eric) of Arkansas.
She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She taught her children Christian principles and practiced them by being a good neighbor and giving unselfishly to all around her. She always had a smile on her face and never complained about her pain. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since February 2, 1952 where she was active in the Ruth Bible Class and taught Sunday School and Sunbeams.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. Services will be on Friday, July 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Fowler Cemetery in Paron. Following the celebration service, family and friends may gather at 24 Flag Road. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ruth Sunday School Class and longtime friends and neighbors, Linda Drewry, Doris Ward and Dorothy Horne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimers Arkansas, 10411 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR 72205.
