Michael Jon Wilson, age 71, passed away on February 1, 2015 at UAMS in Littlerock Arkansas, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 18, 1944 in Maimi Florida to Frank and Louise Wilson. Mike was a retired Captain in the Air Force, who completed Test pilot training in 1979, and remained close to those he served with. Following his retirement, Mike and Sheila spent ten years sailing, first by themselves, and then working as a charter sail captain, and then moved on to become a Captain of private yachts. He was a lifetime member of Sertoma, which is a group that provides Service To Mankind. Michael graduated high school in Key Largo and remained friends with Jim throughout his lifetime. He went on to attend Georgia Tech with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He received his Masters degree in Systems Management, at the University of Southern California, with his close, and longtime friend, Fred. In his later years Michael became a consummate woodworker, who spent his time crafting bowls, utensils, pens and other items, with love, for his various friends and family members, some out of wood from their own property, or loved ones property.
Both his parents, Frank and Louise Wilson, preceded Michael in death as well as his brother Ladd. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife, Sheila Wilson and the light of his life, his granddaughter Courtney Wilson. His first wife Gail Wilson also survives him. He is also survived by his children Michael Legare, Jeff and Dan Wilson; and Michaels children Aaron, Joshua and Jonathan Legare who brought smiles to his face many times as they enjoyed the jokes and stories, that they still share. He is also survived by his sisters Dulcy Wilson of Canada, and his baby sister, sometimes referred to as his twin in spirit, Lesley Drury, her husband Tom who was very much a brother to him, and their children and grandchildren who gave him many hours of laughter. Friends in many countries also survive him, and equally important, his dogs Autumn and Bear; who spent the last few days with him in the hospital.
Services will be held in the Chapel of UAMS, where the staff became a second family too them over the past ten years, while providing phenomenal care. The service will be on February 2, 2016 at UAMS Chapel West Markham, Little Rock Arkansas at Noon.
Sheila and Mike discussed the possibility of donating his body to the cure of Myeloma, however, Mike did not qualify to do so in his death. However, one of the accomplishments he was most proud of was trying anything that was asked of him, with the hope that those after him would benefit from the knowledge gained. Because of this commitment to the cure, they are asking, in lieu of flowers that you donate to finding a cure to:
