Michael George “Mike” McVey, 65, of Beebe, Arkansas, passed away on March 12, 2025. The son of George and Mary McVey, he was born on July 23, 1959, in Searcy, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Blenda McVey, and his children Julie (Jon) of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Drew (Tayhlor) of Beebe; his siblings Alan (Molly) of Little Rock and Renee (Billy) of Des Arc; granddaughter Anna of Gaithersburg; sister-in-law Donna (Curtis) Hitt; and many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Des Arc High School class of 1977, Mike spent many years working with his father in the family logging business. He was a loving father and grandfather who cherished time with his family, particularly his granddaughter, and spending summers with them boating on the lake. Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, shooting and land management projects with his son. He was always eager to purchase his next piece of equipment, most recently a very nice chainsaw. He was the family grill master and spent many hours cooking up burgers and steaks or smoking a variety of meats, all with a good book in hand.
Quiet but with a dry sense of humor, Mike often remarked that he wasn’t a people person and that if his town got any bigger he would move to Montana to raise goats, but family and friends knew that he was the first to help anyone in need. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Beebe, and had a deep faith throughout his life that was apparent in his actions and love for his family. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 from 6-8pm and the funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 2pm, both at Smith-Westbrook funeral home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Dr. in Beebe. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Beebe or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
