Merten H. Jabben, born April 22, 1944, died suddenly October 9, 2016. A native of Germany where he earned a P.H.D. in Biophysics, Merten came to his beloved U.S. to work at the Smithsonian Institute. Once here, he followed his true calling, went to medical school, and became an M.D., specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Despite having MS for over 50 years, Merten was fiercely independent, always curious and lion-hearted.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Smith, and his faithful dog, Bobby. It was Merten's wish that his body would be donated to medical research for MS.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Siegfried Johnson.
Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (501)224-2200. Merten's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
