Maxine Phelps, age 95, of Arkadelphia, passed way Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Arkadelphia. She was born December 1, 1920 in Duffau, Texas to the late Earl and Eula Mae Burton Meeks. She earned her B. A. and Master's degree in education from Henderson State University.
Maxine was a retired school teacher and served as principal for Ouachita High School near Donaldson. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the choir for many years. She also served with the hospital auxiliary at Baptist Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Phelps Brown.
Survivors are her son-in-law, Raymond Brown of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren, Todd (Jane) Brown of Ashburn, Virginia, Tara (Chris) Stacks of Bismarck, Traci (Kyle) King of Arkadelphia and Marsha (Darrell) Ivy of Flower Mound, Texas and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, September 24th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10:00 am Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
