On Sunday, February 9, 2025, Matthew Allen Petty, surrounded by family, peacefully passed away at the age of 84. Matt was born October 6, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri to his beloved parents William C. and Helen E. Petty. In 1962, he married Sandra Gaye Rowlett, the love of his entire life. Their marriage of 63 years was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together they raised six devoted children, instilling strong values of family. He is a cherished husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Cindy Anchor, his two sisters, Helen and Barbara, and four brothers, Joseph, William (Bill), Lester, and Eugene, and many extended family members, all of whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his loving wife Sandy, his dear to him five children: Kim (Bret) Brown, Allen (Angie) Petty, Brian Petty, Sharon Petty, and Melonie (Jenny) Petty, 7 grandchildren, Michael (Nina) Anchor and Cheyanne (Neal) King, Chris (Winnie) Keen, Kevin (Erica) Keen, Ashley (Junior) Segura , Zachary (Heather)Petty, and Spencer Petty, 9 great-grandchildren, his brother Raymond (Kathy) Petty, two sisters Patricia (Tony) Wingenbach, Donna (Michael) Boyd, as well as several nieces ,nephews and friends. All that knew him will forever cherish his memory. Matt was a proud Marine veteran, Semper Fi. He spent countless hours enjoying his favorite hobby and passion, building and flying remote control airplanes.
As the sun sets on a life well lived, we all honor the enduring impact Matthew Allen Petty made on this world for 84 years. His love story does not end here; it carries on in the hearts of all his family and friends, a timeless legacy of a remarkable man. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, lots of love, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation to honor Matt’s life will be held at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107) at 9:30am on Thursday, February 13 followed by a memorial service at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Flowers and cards may be sent to Smith Sherwood Funeral Home.
