Mary Sneed

Mary Ellen Sneed of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on March 29, 2008. She was born on January 19, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Rev. William Charles Maynord and Ellen Carpenter Maynord. She was the widow of Dr. J. Everett Sneed, former editor of the Arkansas Baptist Newsmagazine, and a long-time member of Park Hill Baptist Church
She is survived by her daughters, Chere Sneed Schmidt and her husband, Robert, of North Little Rock and Cathy Sneed Turner, and her husband, Tommy, of Conway; her grandchildren, Erika Turner, William (?Will?) Schmidt, and Katelynn Turner; her brother, David Maynord, and his wife, Pat, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She is also survived by her nieces, Diane Collum and her husband, Jack; Kim Laird and her husband, Kelly; and Donna Caffey, all of Fort Worth, Texas, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Mary had a B.S. in Education and English from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, which intensified her advocacy in those areas, especially as an instructor of English as a Second Language.
With her strong Christian faith, Mary Ellen was a shepherd in the best sense of the word?she not only taught Sunday School, she brought them to Sunday School. Over the years, she built and conducted many GA and WMU programs. Hers was an active faith, and through her teaching and speaking, she encouraged women to let God empower them to pursue leadership in their own spiritual walk.
One of her greatest passions was genealogy. Continuing her father?s work, she was able to research and confirm her family?s lineage to the 15th Century. As part of her legacy, she left with her children her unfinished memoirs. She had been an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, United Daughters of the Confederacy, The Orphan Brigade Kinfolk, and various other organizations.
Friends and family are invited to attend her Home-Going Celebrations. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., at North Little Rock Funeral Home.
