Mary Edna Downey Shook of North Little Rock passed away peacefully into her Savior?s presence on April 26, 2008, at the age of 88. She was born on August 12, 1919, to John Rockett and Belle Bickley Downey. She married O. J. Shook, Jr., on November 15, 1941. They were married 55 years until his death in 1996.
She and her husband were charter members of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rose City. She faithfully served the church in several different capacities through the years. She was a sweet Christian wife and mother who never interfered in anyone?s business, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and those who loved her were truly blessed. She was dedicated to her family and church and will especially be missed by those close to her who were the happy recipients of her oh-so-thin and crisp delicious cookies. One of her favorite times each year was attending the Downey Family Reunion, the 61st being this June. She always loved spending time afterwards with her sisters and Katie, their niece. They laughed, joked, loved and prayed together.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all her siblings, six brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Alfred Helms, of Sherwood, Kay and George Knife, of Searcy; four grandchildren, Chris Knife (Beth) of Conway, Jason Knife (Jennifer) of Searcy, David Helms (Amber) of Bogalusa, Louisiana and Melissa Helms, of Sherwood; four great grandchildren, Nathan and Jayden Knife and Andrew and Karsyn Helms.
