Mary Theresa ?Tessie? Mertens Rogers, 61, of North Little Rock began her heavenly life on August 4, 2008. She was born September 15, 1946 in Little Rock, the daughter of Sanford Valley ?Red? Mertens and Anna Lee Mertens. She attended Mabelvale High School, where she played in the band, was a majorette graduating in 1964.
Disabled from a 20 year career in nursing, Mary was a die-hard razorback fan and sports fanatic. She was an expert at solving crossword puzzles and jeopardy. She loved a good card game among family and friends and the thrill of carnival rides, saying, ?I?ll never grow up; I?ll always be a kid at heart!? Mary was an avid reader and delighted in debating politics; giving her opinion whether you wanted it or not! She seldom missed re-run episodes of CSI, Perry Mason or Golden Girls. Her grandchildren will always remember ?Nana? taking them to the ?Rocket? Slide, to the zoo, to the skate park, to Wal-Mart, to get candy, teaching them to swim and their ABC?s and how to write their name.
She is survived by daughter, Michael Ann Dumond Galloway and husband, Randy Galloway, D.D.S.; grandsons, Hunter and Micah Galloway, all of Forney, Texas; son, Tony Alan Rogers of the home and granddaughters, Emelia and Anna Rogers of Cabot; mother, Ann Mertens of the home; sister and best friend, Debbie Williams and nephews, Aaron and Clayton Williams, all of Gravel Ridge; and very special friends, Debo Kulbeth and family of Marlow, Oklahoma and Buck and Diane Mayhue, of Little Rock, and special neighbors, Sybol Johnston and family. Mary was preceded in death by her father, ?Red? Mertens.
