Mary Lou (Young) PriestJune 8, 1952 – December 6, 2024
Mary Lou (Young) Priest, 72, of Sherwood, Arkansas, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 6, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on June 8, 1952, to the late Emma and David Young of North Little Rock, Mary led a life filled with love, dedication, and joy.
A proud graduate of North Little Rock High School's class of 1970, Mary treasured her classmates and she brought energy and enthusiasm to every high school reunion she helped organize. She attended the University of Arkansas before beginning a distinguished 40-year career with Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Mary was married to her beloved husband, Charles Priest, for 43 years until his passing in 2021. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and shared passions.
Mary had a diverse set of interests. As an avid Razorback fan, Mary delighted in cheering on her favorite team. She was a dedicated collector of Gone with the Wind memorabilia and had a special affection for dachshunds. Her interest in the British Royal Family was a constant source of fascination.
Mary’s faith was central to her life. As a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, she served with joy as a Door Greeter and supported her church family with great affection. Her kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Faye Rhoads, and two brothers, Dale Pope and Bob Pope. She is survived by her siblings: Martha Kuskey (Ken) of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Tim Young (Barbara) of Hot Springs Village, AR; Ruth Ratcliff of Hot Springs Village, AR; and David "Corky" Young (Debby) of North Little Rock, AR; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dedicated caregiver, Penny McLain, and a special friend, Alan Nussbaum.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice. Her deepest wish was for everyone to love and care for one another. The family would like to issue special thanks to the incredible and thoughtful care provided by Hospice Home Care.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, 7700 AR-107, Sherwood, AR 72120. A private family burial will follow.
