Mary Hortense Brown McBride age 79 of Gurdon departed this life Saturday, August 22, 2009 to be with her Lord and Savior; reuniting with the love of her life, husband Elven W. McBride. She was born March 1, 1930 in Beaumont, Texas. Mary was a homemaker, member of the Red Springs EHC, Clark County Quilters' Guild, 4-H leader, a county and district fair judge, member CADC and Clark County voting poll clerk. She was a Sunday School teacher and musician at the First Assembly of God Church, which was founded by her father, Turner S. Brown. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Elven McBride, her parents, Turner S. Brown and Janie Vaden Brown, and sister, Ruth Olivia Lane. She is survived by two daughters, Melody and husband, Danny Key of Farmington, Crystal Dyer of Texarkana, and son, Ronnie and wife, Debbie McBride of Gurdon. Surviving their precious mammaw are five grandchildren, Johnny Key of Mountain Home, Meredith Key Bolt of Springdale, Tiffany Stinnett Purtle of Hope, Shane McBride of Arkadelphia and Shaina McBride of Gurdon, and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, August 24th from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Gurdon, with the service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Bethel Springs Cemetery.
