Mary Jo Jones, 88, of Malvern, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her two daughters.
She was born April 20, 1935, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Elmer Penney and Bessie McCallum Penney.
Mary Jo was a founding member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening her flowers.
Her and the love of her life, her husband, Robert Merl Jones, retired early. They, then, traveled extensively going to music festivals and seeing the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Merl Jones; her son, Charlton Lane Jones and her grandson, Chad Thompson.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Sherry (Andrew) Taylor of Texas and Yolonda (Terry) Thompson of Malvern; her sisters: Shirley Tackett of Plummerville, Arkansas and Dottie Green of Okolona, Arkansas; her brother, Ronnie Penney of Arkadelphia; her grandchildren: Nickie, Sherry Lynn, Marissa, Mason, Robyn and Holli; her numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Arkadelphia with a funeral service to follow at the church at 2:00 p.m. Brother James Taylor and Brother Marvin Pate will officiate the service.
Interment will follow at DeGray Cemetery in Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers will be Wade Jones, Chad Tackett, Chris Jones, Jimbo Kinard, Randy Dixon, Andy Neal, William Walton and Pat Walton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Arrangements are entrusted to Smith Family Funeral Home, 517 Clay Street, Arkadelphia, Arkansas 71923.
