Mrs. Mary Retter Bunting Harvey, 96, of Conway, departed this life on Thursday, April 19, 2007. Mrs. Harvey was born to Elder James ?Jim? Bunting and Mrs. Patie Chavis Bunting on June 11, 1910 in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas. She received her education from The Scoffer Ridge School located in Conway. She was married to Eldridge Harvey on June 11, 1930, to this union 10 boys 4 girls were born.
Since her early teens, she has tried to obey, follow and teach God?s words. In her mid years, she joined The Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church in The Caney Community, of Conway, Arkansas where she remained a faithful, devoted member until her passing.
?Mama Retter,? as she is affectionally called by her many grandchildren, was an extraordinary cook, and spent her entire life caring for and loving her family. Always doing whatever she could, where ever she could for whomever she could. She was an outstanding gardener and canned her own fruits, vegetables and meats. In her younger days, she sewed most of the clothes for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge Harvey; two brothers; three sisters; three sons; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: eleven children, James ?Jim? Harvey (Lue Burn) of Paramount, California, Ida Rose Dockery (William), Thomas Harvey, and Charles E. Harvey of Kansas City, Missouri, Joseph ?Joe? Harvey (Virgie) and Father L. Warren Harvey of Little Rock, Shirley Fuller, Samuel ?Sam? Harvey (Lovie) and Arthur Ray Harvey (Loretta) of Conway, Ruthie Mae Williams (Willie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Patie Alvarez of Austin, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Laura Howard, of Kansas City, Missouri; brother-in-law, Mr. Frank Harvey of Conway; 63 grandchildren; 138 great grandchildren; 89 great-great grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services by North Little Rock Funeral Home will be held at Pleasant Branch Baptist Church in Conway at 11:00 A. M., Monday April 30, 2007. Burial will be in Sinai Cemetery, Conway. Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday April 29, 2007 at Pleasant Branch Baptist Church. Online obituary and guest register at www.northlittlerockfuneralhome.com.
