Mary Ward Gans, 85, of Little Rock, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2007. She was born October 5, 1921 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, former President of Ward Furniture Manufacturing Company, a Charter member of the Junior League of Ft. Smith, Founding Director of Dr. Roger Bost School in Ft. Smith, landowner and farmer in Arkansas County.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert John and Mary Ethel Sorrells LaFitte; and husbands, James A. Ward, III, and Howard S. Gans, Sr.
She is survived by sons, Robart D. Long and wife Paula, and James A. Ward, IV of Little Rock; daughters, Elizabeth W. Gillespie of Hickory, North Carolina, Miriam Ward of Texarkana, Texas, and Cornelia W. Thode of Little Rock; niece, Barbara Dale Crafton of Blytheville, Arkansas; nephew, Ronald Dunlap of Benton, Arkansas; step-daughter, Claudia Arkovitch of Tampa, Florida; and step-son, Howard S. Gans, Jr. of New York City, New York; eleven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be private. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or one's favorite charity.
