Mary Ellen Ginty Ellis age 90 of Arkadelphia died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in Arkadelphia. She was born September 23, 1918 in County Mayo, Ireland to Bartholomew and Anne Kelly Ginty. Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arkadelphia. At age 17 she moved to London, England and resided there throughout World War II. In 1945 she met and married her husband, Charles M. Ellis, who was serving in the U. S. Army and moved to Arkansas in 1946. At various times they lived in Little Rock, Fayetteville, Panama Canal Zone, Illinois and Florida. They moved permanently to Arkadelphia in 1958, where her husband was a professor at Henderson State University. Her husband, six brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Maureen Ellis of Sterling, Virginia; one son, Charles E. Ellis and wife, Carolyn of Blytheville, AR; three grandchildren, Mary Boyd Ellis of Fayetteville, AR; Michael Ellis and wife, Araceley of Centerton, AR; Emily Fann and husband, Seth of Springdale, AR; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Fann, Abby Fann and Katie Ellis; four sisters, Bridget and husband, Joe Gainer of Potomac, Maryland; Margaret Ginty of London, England; Rose Smith of Bournemouth, England; Eileen Bull and husband, Lewis of Reislip, England; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Charles M. Ellis English Scholarship Fund% Henderson State University Foundation.
