Mary Elizabeth Terry, born on April 21, 1953, in Port Huron, Michigan, passed away on March 25, 2025. A devoted family member and friend, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and service that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mary worked at Parkway Elementary in the Bryant School District, where she served in the cafeteria. Her commitment to the students' well-being was unwavering; she found immense joy in her work and was affectionately known by students as a beloved "Lunch Lady." She and her colleagues brought smiles to many faces through the enjoyable "Lunch Lady" videos they created, fostering a sense of community and fun among the students.
Those who knew Mary will fondly remember her as a powerful protector and defender of her family, with a remarkable sense of humor that could brighten any room. Mary wholeheartedly engaged in her daughters' activities, being an ever-present source of support and encouragement. Her infectious laughter and enthusiasm for life made her a cherished companion and a source of joy for many.
Mary can be remembered as a true servant to her community. She embodied love and compassion, often placing the needs of others before her own. Her kindness extended beyond her family, as she routinely prepared meals for those in the hospital or sick at home. During times of crisis, such as storms or tornadoes, Mary was there to offer solace with warm meals, hot coffee, and comforting words. Her selflessness did not go unnoticed; she never forgot anyone's face or name, and her genuine care for others was evident.
In her spiritual life, Mary was deeply committed to her faith and attended the First United Methodist Church in Sardis. Her active participation, especially in the ladies' ministries, further demonstrated her dedication to serving others and spreading love within her community.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William Howard Terry of Alexander, Arkansas, along with her daughters, Charlotte Calhoun and husband Jeff of Alexander, Arkansas, and Shirley Helen Terry-Ward of Alexander, Arkansas. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Taylor William Calhoun and wife Shae, Mattie Elizabeth Calhoun, Trevor Nicholas Ward and wife Peyton, Blake Matthew Ward, and John Carter Ward, as well as great-grandchildren Oliver, Zoey, Asher, Amanda, and Colt. Additionally, she is survived by her stepmother, Connie Green of Michigan, and many family members and friends who love Mary and will miss her always.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Eugene Green and Catherine Scanditlo Green.
She will be remembered for her delightful spirit, her unwavering love, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those she touched.
Visitation for Mary Elizabeth Terry will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street in Benton, Arkansas.
